Event Details

Our April presentation kicks off a new collaboration between the Fort Collins Historical Society and the Colorado State University Department of History. Every year the history department hosts an annual Graduate Student Research Conference, highlighting advanced research from its MA and PhD candidates.

This event showcases diverse historical studies on the theme of “Striving Towards Equity." Students will explore the following questions, “Where do historians see fairness, justice, and equality or their opposites in the past? How does the work of history inform or facilitate equity? Consider the broad implications of various ideas of equity and how they have been expressed and enacted in the past.”

The Fort Collins Historical Society is excited to open the floor to emerging historians, giving them a chance to share their research and new perspectives on the past with the community.

In 2026, the United States turns 250 and Colorado celebrates 150 years of statehood. To mark these historic milestones, the Fort Collins Historical Society presents Living in History, a yearlong series exploring how our city’s past continues to shape its present and future.
Each talk will spotlight a different chapter in Fort Collins’ story—from civil rights and citizen activism to urban growth and transportation. We’ll trace how everyday residents, through bold movements and quiet contributions alike, have helped build the community we call home. As we reflect on where we’ve been and imagine what’s ahead, we invite you to join us in Living in History.
