DESCRIPTION:March's Topic: History of the LibraryDiscover the story o
f the Fort Collins library, from its 19th-century beginnings in small comm
unity reading rooms to the Carnegie Library and today’s Poudre River Pub
lic Library District. This talk will explore how books, buildings, and civ
ic ambition shaped one of Fort Collins’ most enduring public institution
s. We will also be marking an important milestone at this event. It was 5
0 years ago that the Fort Collins Library moved out of the Carnegie Buildi
ng and into what we know today as the Old Town Library. What an auspicious
opportunity for the Historical Society to be reflecting on the history of
this important local institution. In 2026, the United States turns 250 a
nd Colorado celebrates 150 years of statehood. To mark these historic mile
stones, the Fort Collins Historical Society presents Living in History, a
yearlong series exploring how our city’s past continues to shape its pr
esent and future. Each talk will spotlight a different chapter in Fort Coll
ins’ story—from civil rights and citizen activism to urban growth and
transportation. We’ll trace how everyday residents, through bold movemen
ts and quiet contributions alike, have helped build the community we call
home. As we reflect on where we’ve been and imagine what’s ahead, we i
nvite you to join us in Living in History. These presentations are free an
d open to the public. Bring a friend! For more information about the Fort C
