Registration opens today for the December 10 event: Free to Read. The Free to Read Book Club is perfect for high school students and adults interested in exploring banned and challenged books.
December's discussion will be about The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen. This graphic novel for young adults tells the story of Tiến, a 13 year old who struggles to communicate with his immigrant parents and uses fairytales to navigate life's challenges.
The Magic Fish was named was named the best graphic novels of 2020 by several publications, including the New York Public Library and Entertainment Weekly. It has been challenged in several school districts for it's depiction of a young gay teen.
