Retired Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) share their different accounts of one country in this International Night presentation about Guinea. Sam Kunz served with the Peace Corps in Guinea from 2018-2020, looking to pivot her career toward public service. After PC, she got a master's degree in public administration, then returned to the continent to work in public health in Senegal. She recently moved back to her home state of CO with her husband, Walt, her daughter, Ruby, and her Senegalese dog, Lenny, and is now a researcher at the University of Denver.
Walt Hetzel joined Peace Corps Guinea as a second generation math teacher in West Africa, inspired to serve by his dad (RPCV Ghana, 1980-82). He has spent his career in education and international development, most recently working in education financing for UNICEF. As a first-time resident of CO, he is excited to raise his 1-year-old daughter Ruby surrounded by family and the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
Sam and Walt are looking forward to sharing their distinct experiences in Guinea. With Sam having served in a tiny village in the Mulsim West and Walt having served in a big city in the Christian Southeast, they hope to illuminate Guinea's rich ethnic, geographic, and cultural diversity.
